Carnival Description
A two-day celebration preceding the Christian season of Lent, rooted in both Roman pagan festivities and Catholic tradition. Throughout Argentina, but especially in the northern provinces like Corrientes and Entre Ríos, streets fill with costumed parades, cumbia music, and water balloon fights. In Gualeguaychú, elaborate samba-style parades draw huge crowds. Schools and government offices close for both days, and many businesses shut down as communities engage in communal merrymaking.
