Boxing Day Description
Boxing Day (Second Christmas Day) extends the Christmas celebration in Denmark. It is a public holiday with banks and government offices closed, and most shops shut by law. The primary tradition is the "julefrokost" (Christmas lunch), an elaborate affair often lasting all afternoon with colleagues or friends — featuring herring, aquavit, beers, and a progression of fish, meat, and cheese dishes. Visiting multiple "julefrokoster" across the holiday season is a cherished Danish custom. Many also use the day for winter walks, cinema visits, or relaxing after the intensity of Christmas Eve, savoring the remaining holiday atmosphere.
