Christmas Day Description
Christmas Day (First Christmas Day) celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ. In Denmark, the main celebration is Christmas Eve ("Juleaften") on December 24, when families dance around the Christmas tree singing carols, exchange gifts, and enjoy a feast of roast duck or pork with caramelized potatoes and red cabbage, followed by "risalamande" (almond rice pudding) for dessert. Christmas Day itself involves a festive lunch with extended family, church services, and continued celebrations. All shops, banks, and government offices close completely. The Danish "julehygge" — candlelit coziness — permeates homes nationwide.
