Easter Sunday Description
Easter Sunday celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ and is the most important day in the Christian calendar. In Denmark, families gather for "påskefrokost" (Easter lunch) featuring pickled herring, salmon, lamb, eggs, and aquavit, accompanied by "påskebryg" (Easter beer). Children receive chocolate eggs from the "påskehare" (Easter Bunny) and participate in egg-rolling contests. Gækkebreve — intricately cut paper letters with snowdrop flowers sent anonymously — are a uniquely Danish tradition. Church attendance is high, and many families enjoy walks in the spring countryside. Most shops remain closed by law on this sacred day.
