Whit Monday Description
Whit Monday (Second Pentecost Day) is a public holiday in Denmark concluding the Pentecost weekend. Government offices, banks, and most businesses close. The day is more relaxed than Whit Sunday, often spent outdoors — many Danes visit the coast, cycle through the countryside, or tend to their "kolonihave" (allotment gardens). Some Christian communities hold open-air services called "pinsestævner." In Copenhagen, the day may feature harbor swimming or urban picnics. As a spring holiday, it bridges the gap between Easter and the summer vacation period, with extended daylight hours encouraging outdoor leisure.
