Eid al-Fitr Description
One of Islam's two major festivals, marking the end of Ramadan, the holy month of fasting. The celebration begins with special morning prayers at mosques and large open-air grounds (musallas) across Egypt. Families exchange gifts and greetings of 'Eid Mubarak,' while children receive money (eidiya) from elders. Kahk, traditional butter cookies filled with dates or nuts, are served in every home. Government offices, banks, and most businesses close for the full three days. Streets fill with carnival-like festivities, amusement park visits, and family gatherings.
