International Workers' Day, a national public holiday honoring the contributions and rights of Egyptian workers across all industries. Labor unions organize rallies and events in major cities, with the main gatherings typically in Cairo near the headquarters of the Egyptian Trade Union Federation. The President often delivers a speech highlighting labor policies and worker protections. Government offices, banks, and most businesses close. In recent years, the day has also been used as an occasion for the government to announce wage increases or social benefits for public sector employees.
