All Saints' Day Description
All Saints' Day honors all saints and martyrs of the Catholic Church. Across Spain, families visit cemeteries to clean and decorate the graves of deceased relatives with flowers, especially chrysanthemums. Public offices, banks, and schools close. Bakeries sell traditional sweets such as "huesos de santo" (marzipan "saints' bones"). In Catalonia, the "castanyada" tradition features roasted chestnuts and sweet potatoes, while in Galicia the "Samaín" celebration has Celtic pagan roots.
