International Workers' Day on May 1st marked by union parades across major French cities. It is the only jour férié on which all workers are legally guaranteed paid leave. The tradition of offering lily of the valley sprigs as good-luck tokens is widespread, with street vendors selling them everywhere. Public demonstrations and marches are held nationwide.
