Eid al-Adha Description
Known as Hari Raya Idul Adha or Hari Raya Haji, this is the Festival of Sacrifice commemorating Prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son. Morning prayers at mosques and open grounds are followed by the ritual sacrifice of goats, sheep, or cows (qurban), with the meat distributed among family, neighbors, and the poor — a powerful display of communal sharing visible across every village and urban neighborhood. In Hindu-majority Bali, Muslim communities observe their traditions while Christian and Buddhist areas of Indonesia similarly close for this shared national celebration of charity and devotion.
