Pancasila Day Description
Commemorates the enunciation of Pancasila, the foundational philosophical theory of the Indonesian state, by President Sukarno on June 1, 1945, though observed on October 1 to also honor the anniversary of the 1965 G30S/PKI events. The holiday reinforces the five principles: belief in God, just and civilized humanity, Indonesian unity, democracy guided by consensus, and social justice. Official ceremonies, flag-raising events, and speeches by government officials take place nationwide. Government offices and banks close. Schools organize essay competitions and discussions on Pancasila's role in maintaining unity in Indonesia's diverse society.
