Christmas Day Description
Celebrated on December 25th commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ. The main festivities occur on Christmas Eve with the Nochebuena celebration featuring an elaborate late-night dinner with bacalao, romeritos, and ponche. Many families attend Misa de Gallo at midnight. Las Posadas in the nine days leading up to Christmas reenact Mary and Joseph's search for shelter. Piñatas are broken and children receive gifts. Nearly all businesses, banks, and services close for family celebrations.
