Labour Day Description
International Workers' Day on May 1st marked by union-organized marches and rallies in Mexico City and other major urban centers, with workers demanding improved labor conditions and wages. The Zócalo often hosts large gatherings addressed by labor leaders and politicians. Government offices, banks, and many private businesses close. While rooted in labor movements, many Mexicans simply enjoy the day off with family picnics and leisure activities.
