Hari Raya Aidiladha Description
The Festival of Sacrifice, known as Hari Raya Haji in Malaysia, commemorating Prophet Ibrahim's obedience to God. The day begins with congregational prayers at mosques across the country, followed by the korban (sacrifice) ritual where goats, sheep, cows, or camels are slaughtered, their meat divided and distributed to family, neighbors, and the less fortunate. In rural kampung, communal korban ceremonies bring villages together in shared devotion and charity. Government offices, banks, and most businesses close. The holiday also coincides with the Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca, and Malaysians pray for the safe return of pilgrims. Traditional dishes made from the sacrificed meat are shared widely among communities of all faiths.
