Good Friday Description
Good Friday commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and is a solemn day of reflection. While technically a public holiday, it is not a mandatory day off for all workers under Dutch collective agreements. Banks and some government offices close, but many businesses operate as usual. Churches hold special services, and in some communities, particularly in the Protestant "Bible Belt" stretching from Zeeland to Overijssel, shops and public activities are notably subdued in observance of the day's significance.
