Whit Sunday Description
Whit Sunday celebrates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles, occurring fifty days after Easter. As it falls on a Sunday, most workers already have the day off. Church services feature readings about Pentecost, and some congregations hold confirmation ceremonies. The day is quieter than Easter; families may gather for lunch, but large-scale celebrations are uncommon. In the Dutch Bible Belt, shops and businesses close voluntarily, and the day retains a strongly religious character with minimal commercial activity.
