Epiphany Description
Epiphany commemorates the revelation of Jesus Christ to the Three Wise Men. In Norway, it marks the official end of the Christmas season. Church services are held in most parishes recounting the journey of the Magi. While it is a recognized public holiday, it is less commercially prominent than Christmas. Banks and government offices close, though some retail stores may operate. The day signals that Christmas decorations should be taken down. In rural areas, particularly in western Norway, the tradition of "trettende dag jul" includes small gatherings with leftover Christmas treats and the final lighting of holiday candles.
