Labour Day Description
Labour Day (Første mai) is International Workers' Day and an official public holiday in Norway with strong traditions. Trade unions and political parties, particularly the Norwegian Labour Party, organize parades and marches in cities, with the largest in Oslo starting at Youngstorget square. Banners, brass bands, and speeches on workers' rights, social democracy, and international solidarity characterize the day. It is also a spring celebration, with many attending outdoor events afterward. Banks, government offices, and most businesses close. Children's parades are organized in some municipalities, blending political and family-oriented activities.
