Whit Monday Description
Whit Monday is the second day of Pentecost and a public holiday in Norway. Government offices, banks, and most businesses close. It concludes the Pentecost weekend and marks the end of the spring holiday season before the summer vacation period begins. Many Norwegians spend the day outdoors — boating on fjords, hiking in national parks, or working in their gardens. The holiday has become largely secular in modern Norway, serving primarily as an extra rest day. Some communities organize local festivals, concerts, or sporting events, but it remains one of the quieter public holidays in the Norwegian calendar.
