Araw ng Pagkakaisa (EDSA People Power Anniversary) — holiday, Philippines (February 25, 2026)

Araw ng Pagkakaisa (EDSA People Power Anniversary) Description

Araw ng Pagkakaisa (Day of Unity) on February 25th commemorates the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution that toppled the Marcos dictatorship and restored democracy in the Philippines through peaceful mass protests along Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) in Metro Manila. Millions of Filipinos — including nuns, priests, students, and ordinary citizens — formed human barricades to protect rebel military forces, leading to the flight of President Ferdinand Marcos and the installation of Corazon Aquino as president. The EDSA Shrine (Our Lady of Peace Quirino Grandstand) is the center of commemoration ceremonies. The day is a special non-working holiday. Government offices and schools close. Most private businesses remain open. The observance has been subject to political debate in recent years, with some administrations emphasizing the holiday more than others. For many Filipinos, it is a quiet day of recollection. Some civic groups hold forums, exhibits, and peace rallies. The holiday is also called People Power Day or EDSA Revolution Anniversary.
