Easter Sunday Description
Easter Sunday celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ and is the most important feast in the Portuguese Catholic calendar. Families gather for a festive lunch featuring roast kid goat ("cabrito assado") or lamb, accompanied by the sweet "folar da Páscoa" (Easter bread with eggs). Many attend morning mass, and traditional almond-covered sweets are exchanged, especially the "amêndoas de Páscoa." Godparents present their godchildren with "folar," a custom known as "beijar o folar." Public offices, banks, and most commerce close completely.
