Portugal Day Description
Portugal Day, officially the Day of Portugal, Camões, and the Portuguese Communities, commemorates the death of the national poet Luís de Camões in 1580. The President and government officials attend official ceremonies in a different city each year, celebrating Portuguese heritage and diaspora communities worldwide. Banks, government offices, and most businesses close. Parades, concerts, and cultural events honor Portuguese history, language, and the global Portuguese community. The day is particularly meaningful for emigrant communities in Brazil, the USA, and across Europe.
