Whit Sunday Description
Whit Sunday celebrates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles, occurring fifty days after Easter. While it is a public holiday, its impact is lessened by always falling on a Sunday. Church services include confirmation ceremonies, and historically this was a popular day for weddings in Sweden. Many Swedes spend the day outdoors as spring blooms across the country. Some communities organize communal feasts. The long tradition of the "pingstbrud" (Pentecost bride) custom — where villages selected a bride to parade — persists in some rural districts through cultural reenactments.
