Commemorates the death anniversary of Prince Mahidol Adulyadej of Songkla (1892-1929), revered as the 'Father of Modern Thai Medicine' and the 'Father of Thai Public Health.' The Prince, who studied at Harvard Medical School, revolutionized healthcare in Thailand, establishing the first teaching hospital (Siriraj Hospital) and modern nursing and medical education systems. Medical institutions across the country host exhibitions, academic conferences, and award ceremonies recognizing outstanding contributions to medicine and public health. Wreath-laying ceremonies take place at Prince Mahidol's statue at Siriraj Hospital and Mahidol University. Government offices, banks, and most businesses close. The day is a tribute not only to the Prince's legacy but also to all medical professionals in Thailand, whose work continues the tradition of healthcare excellence that Prince Mahidol pioneered.
