Songkran Festival (Day 2) Description
The second day of the Songkran New Year celebration, continuing the water festivities and traditional observances across all provinces. In Chiang Mai, the parade of Buddha images and cultural processions along Tha Phae Road draws large crowds, while the moat remains the epicenter of water fights with people from around the world participating. Families continue visits to temples for merit-making, and the pouring of water over monks and elders persists in more traditional communities. Water-soaked streets resound with the cries of 'Sawasdee Pee Mai' (Happy New Year) and Thai pop music. Government offices, banks, and most businesses remain closed. The atmosphere is one of shared, nationwide joy — from Bangkok's packed streets to the quiet villages where celebrations are more traditional but no less spirited.
